Physical Appearance:
Corva stand between 4’-5 ½’ tall, with jet black feathers and sharp beaks. They have slender arms with crooked fingers and talon-like nails. Feathered wings extend from their shoulder blades, allowing them to fly. Female corva are generally shorter and slimmer, and feature the same colored feathers on their heads as they do elsewhere on their bodies. Males are slightly taller, often adorned with colored feathers on their heads in dark shades of maroon, blue, purple, or green.
Personality Traits:
Young corva have a striking difference in personality from their elders. They are playful, carefree, and above all else, inquisitive. As they age, they gradually lose their playful nature, adopting a more serious demeanor that is further reinforced by their stern culture. By early adulthood, most corva have shed their playfulness and may even find jokes to be crude or offensive. Instead, they develop a strong sense of duty, both to their families and their people. The main trait they retain from childhood is their curiosity, which often leads them to pursue scholarly roles.
Kingdoms and Heritage:
Corvan society originated on the northern coasts of Reine, where the towering cliffs provided shelter within its vast network of caves. As their society progressed, they constructed cities that towered above the cliffside. The corva formed alliances with the nearby humans, halflings, and irnet, leading to the formation of Reine as a country. In Reine, each of the four races has its own capital city, with Hazelrest serving as the seat of power for the corva. Queen Arella is the current monarch of Hazelrest and the ruler of the northern quarter of Reine. While any of the four races may live anywhere within Reine, those residing within Hazelrest must adhere to Queen Arella’s rule.
Corva share a deep bond with the irnet, largely due to their shared fascination with the arcane arts. After the fall of Reaverbury, the irnet capital, many survivors were welcomed into Hazelrest, which further deepened the bond between the two races. Queen Arella’s significant contribution of forces to support the garrison at Reaverbury has prevented the demonic incursion from spreading through Reine. The corva often find themselves at odds with the halflings of Fernheart, whom they view as a simple people who lack dignity. The halflings’ carefree and jovial demeanor strikes the corva as childish.
In addition to the corva of Reine, another population exists along the southern borders of Yathavelt, a country located to the south of Reine. These corva are less uptight than their northern counterparts and have a more militaristic culture. They live near many hostile nations, and frequent raids on their city of Ambermoore necessitate a substantial military presence. While their feathers remain primarily black, it is common for all of their feathers to be tinged with dark shades of blue, green, or purple.
