Physical Appearance:
Halflings closely resemble humans, with the largest difference being their size. Halflings can stand anywhere from 2 ½ – 3 ½ feet tall. Their facial features are soft, with larger eyes, full cheeks, and button noses. While it is possible for some halflings to grow beards, it is considerably rare. Halfling ears are slightly pointed at the tips, though not as sharp as elven ears. Individualism is a prominent trait amongst halflings, and they tend to express this by having widely varied wardrobes, jewelry, and hair styles. While many halflings keep their natural hair colors, it is also normal for them to dye their hair to a color they prefer.
Personality Traits:
Enthusiastic is the word that most would use to describe the personality of halflings. Being friends with a halfling is easy enough to do because they are strong believers that you can never have too many friends. Halflings are also curious by nature, which leads to a large number of them making a living as adventurers, explorers, merchants, or wanderers. Halflings are always on the lookout for a good time, no matter where they are. They are passionate about their interests, and pursue those passions cheerfully.
Kingdoms and Heritage:
Halflings originated from Reine, a country in the northeast of Ortona known for its dark forests and witch covens. The halflings of Reine are a direct contradiction to the place they reside. Their capital city of Fernheart has one of the happiest populations in all of Ortona. King Findon Goldtopple is the monarch of Fernheart, and one of the four rulers of Reine. He is viewed as a just ruler, a reliable ally, and a formidable foe. The halflings rarely march to war, but King Findon Goldtopple led his people against the invading Coalition forces twenty years ago and proved that the halflings of Reine are not to be trifled with. The one race that the halflings have trouble befriending is the corva, who tend to dislike the halflings’ jovial nature. Outside of their home country, halflings have made quite an impact on the world.
Halflings are one of the most widely dispersed races in Ortona, with groups settling in nearly every country. They generally avoid pursuing positions of power or authority, preferring a more carefree existence. Most halflings have little interest in the broader affairs of the countries they inhabit. Instead, they focus on their immediate surroundings—whether it’s the city or town they live in, their neighborhood, or simply the community they’ve built. Interpersonal relationships are highly valued among halflings, and they become fiercely loyal and protective of those they call friends.
