Physical Appearance:
Elves are similar to humans in appearance, with a few distinct features. They have pointed ears and slender figures. Their hair is often a dark brown or black, though there are many elves who are born with more colorful hair in shades of blues, reds, and greens. Elves have caramel colored skin that is free of blemishes and wrinkles, even into old age. Most elves only ever reach a height of 5 ½ ft, though in rare occurrences can reach up to 6 ft tall. Female elves tend to be an inch or two taller than the males.
Personality Traits:
Elves are a proud people that have seen great hardship in recent times. Their fall from greatness has truly humbled the race, who many viewed as arrogant. Now the elves of Ortona have been forced to change how they once viewed themselves, no longer having the strong Kingdom they treasured. Despite their losses, they maintain their polite and serious demeanor. They are deeply devoted to the people and causes they cherish. Etiquette and respect are both highly valued, and instilled in their children from an early age.
Kingdoms and Heritage:
Elves once had one of the strongest civilizations in the world, spanning across an archipelago of thousands of islands off the western coast of Ortona. They built vast cities across their empire, all unified by their command of the world’s largest fleet. When their empire sank beneath the waves the elves were forced onto their ships, becoming refugees that spread across Ortona. The cause of the archipelago’s sinking remains a mystery, despite years of searching for answers. This dark day became known as (The Sinking). Over the last fifty years, the elves have settled in various nations and integrated themselves into several governing bodies. Abero has accepted the most refugees, with Kushamiri and the Free Cities close behind.
Elves are no longer the unified faction that they once were, and so elven societies now vary depending on the country that they now inhabit. In Kushamiri, the elves have largely kept their population centered around the God’s Lakes, creating fleets of fishing vessels to try to maintain a semblance of their former traditions and practices. In Abero, the elves were initially crowded into a single shanty city, which earned the name the Slums due to the rampant poverty and lack of proper housing. Integration began slowly; many of the fiefdoms initially refused to take in the refugees. It was only in the last twenty years that the majority of elves left the Slums and settled in the non-coastal fiefdoms. The change was initiated the marriage of an elven noble named Renna to the heir of Belau, Darius Belauguard. After the death of Lord Edgar Belauguard, Darius and Renna became the rulers of Belau, and allowed nearly a hundred thousand elves to migrate from the Slums into their fiefdom.
There are many smaller settlements of elves throughout Ortona, with dozens of smaller city-states being created in the Wildlands after the Coalition war ended. The Free Cities hold a large population of elves, though they largely act independently from one another; like most of the citizens in the Free Cities do. The islands to the East of Ortona have become another refuge for smaller factions of elves; many of whom retain their ancestral traditions.
